KOCHI: Justice Kurian Joseph on Sunday said attitude towards life determined the altitude, while discipline determined destiny. He was inaugurating the K V Thomas Vidhyadhanam Trust’s scholarship distribution and Vidhyadhanam Excellence Awards at St Teresa’s College here.

“Education plays an important role in shaping one’s character. One should become a good person through the values imbibed from education and honesty must be the key in one’s life. Fundamental duties are the moral obligations of all citizens that must be followed,” said Kurian Joseph. Parents must be a challenge to children and children should always learn from their parents, he said.

The Vidhyadhanam Trust distributed scholarships worth `32.5 lakh to 1,300 students. Around 60 educational institutions were given the Vidhyadhanam Excellence Awards. Students who scored A Plus in all the subjects in the SSLC and Plus Two examinations were also awarded.

Welcoming all, K V Thomas MP and managing director of the trust said the organisation was taking all the necessary steps to ensure educational benefits to students.“With the support of the state and the Centre, the trust will provide more opportunities to improve the educational scenario of students. Under its new project, the trust will launch 500 kindles, equivalent to 1.5 crore books, for 100 schools,” he said. Cochin Shipyard chairman Madhu S Nair, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd executive director Prasad K Panickar, Kochi Mayor Soumini Jain, Hibi Eden MLA, Asset Homes managing director Sunil Kumar, SBI general manager Aravind Gupta, former director of St Teresa’s College Sr Vinitha also spoke.
