KOCHI: A day after unidentified passengers beat up a 63-year-old cab driver and escaped with his taxi from near Ayyampuzha, the police found the vehicle lying abandoned in Manjapra.

However, the police are yet to trace the duo behind the crime. The two miscreants got into the cab of Sivasankaran Nair of Keezhmadu around 5 pm on Thursday and asked him to take them to Malayattoor, 50 km away from Aluva.

When the vehicle reached Pandupara, near Ayyampuzha, the duo asked the driver to halt the vehicle to take a leak. When they returned, the duo who were reportedly drunk, attacked and overpowered the driver and fled the scene in the car.

“We are checking CCTV visuals to identify them. We hope to apprehend them soon,” said Vishal Johnson, an officer with Aluva East police station.
