Naval interceptor boat catches fire in Kolkata

KOLKATA: An interceptor speed boat rented by the Indian Navy caught fire at a mooring near the Eastern Command Army HQ this morning. Two maintenance men received burns in the incident.

The incident took place at the Princep Ghat, which is close to Fort William, the headquarters of the Eastern Command, where there has been significant military deployment in view of the current Indo-Pakistan tensions.

The speed boat was one of two the Navy had hired from a private agency. The two injured men were employees of the agency. They have been admitted in hospital in a serious condition. No personnel of the Indian Navy were hurt..

It was not known what sparked the fire. Two fire tenders brought the fire under control.
