THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) has ordered a compensation of Rs10.5 lakh to a youth who became paraplegic after an accident. S Rathish, a daily labourer from a financially backward family, became paraplegic when a van hit his cycle at the Power House-Choorakkattupalayam road on May 17, 2005.
MACT judge K M Balachandran ordered the amount on a petition filed by Rathish. Advocate Vazhuthacaud Narendran appeared for the petitioner. The court asked IFFCO TOKIO General Insurance Company, which insured the van, to pay the amount, including the court fees, within a month.
