THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The passenger earnings in the Thiruvananthapuram Railway Division had recorded an increase of 9.13 percent in 2010, Divisional Railway Manager Rajiv Dutt Sharma said at a consultative meeting held here on Tuesday. He also said that the total earnings of Thiruvananthapuram Division recorded an increase of Rs 23 crore for the period April to October 2010.
The lift and escalator facility in Thiruvananthapuram Division has been granted sanction and it will be opened within a year, he said. Comprehensive security system for Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam Junctions at a cost of Rs 11 crore will also be installed in the current financial year, he said.He said that the Thiruvananthapuram Division ranked second only to Chennai Division under the Southern Railway in terms of number of passengers carried and in terms of passenger earnings.
As part of improving passenger amenities, a total budget grant of Rs 21 crore has been allotted of which Rs six crore had already been spent, he said.
