Sai Baba’s birthday celebrated

The 85th birthday of Sri Sathya Sai Baba was celebrated with a mass marriage at Sai Gramam, Thonnakkal.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The 85th birthday of Sri Sathya Sai Baba was celebrated with a mass marriage at Sai Gramam, Thonnakkal. Four couples from economically weaker families tied the knot in the presence of hundreds of Sai devotees who had assembled to celebrate Baba’s birthday at Sai Gramam.

‘’It is the tenth consecutive year that the Sathya Sai Orphanage Trust is organising the mass marriage to celebrate Baba’s birthday. Around 90 couples have been married till date,’’ said Anandakumar, executive director of Sri Sathya Sai Orphanage Trust. In addition to the four marriages in Sai Gramam, two couples were married at Kasargod on Tuesday.

Anil Kumar D and Ahira G (Thiruvananthapuram), Binu E and Raji O (Ponmudi), Renjith U and Divya Krishnan (Mavelikkara) and Prasad J and Suni V (Vallakkadavu) got married at Sai Gramam. Thiruvananthapuram District Panchayat vice-president Roofus Daniel, Mudakkal panchayat president Adv Lenin, former Upa Lok Ayukta Justice Krishnan Nair, retired government secretary J. Lalithambika, BCCI former secretary S.K. Nair and Ports former director P K R Nair handed over thali and garlands to the couples.

Earlier in the day, the birthday celebration was inaugurated by Transport Minister Jose Thettayil. The Minister hailed the activities of the Trust and wished that the Trust would be able to expand its services to new horizons. A musical concert by Lovely Janardanan followed the function. The week-long Sai Jayanthi fete at Sai Gramam came to a close with the Kathakali performance by Margi.
