THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The annual festival at the Sree Chamundi Devi Temple here will come to a close with the famed ‘Pongala’ on Tuesday.
The day’s festivities will begin at 10.30 am and end with the ‘uchapooja’ and ‘pongala tharpanam’ at 2.30 pm. All arrangements are in place for the smooth offering of the pongala, expected to be attended by thousands of women, officials of the Karikkakom Sree Chamundi Devi Temple Trust said.
Tantri Puliyannur Mana Anujan Namboothiripad will light the ‘Pandara aduppu,’ opening the pongala ceremony. As many as 150 temple officials have been appointed for the ‘Pongala tharpanam.’
The annual festival at the Karikkakom Temple had opened on March 28. Over the years, public participation in the Karikkakom pongala has grown. Today, it is also possible to view the pongala live from anywhere on the globe. For that, just log on to www.karikkakomdevitemple.in.
Various agencies are co-operating with the conduct of the annual festival. The KSRTC will be running special chain services from East Fort.
The services of the Police Department, Kerala Water Authority, Kerala State Electricity Board, Fire and Rescue Services and the Health Department will be available to devotees, temple officials said.
