THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former MLA K C Rosakutty took charge as the chairperson of Women’s Commission here on Wednesday. Nurbina Rasheed and Ambika took charge as commission member and secretary respectively.

Interacting with mediapersons, Rosakutty said that priority would be given to settling pending cases in a time-bound manner. “Justice delayed is justice denied. So all cases would be settled as soon as possible by conducting a mega adalat. A decision in this regard will be taken after discussing with other members,” she said.

Rosakutty said that the Commission would not only intervene in women’s issues but also try to solve the root cause.

“There must be an end to the trend of considering women as second grade citizens. The Commission would spread awareness on gender equality especially among children. Future generation must be gender sensitive. There is also plan to display posters with slogans praising the greatness of women,” she said. Rosakutty said that women facing problems can feel free to call her even at midnight.

“Anybody can call me on my mobile number at any time,” she said. Rosakutty added that she would take steps to popularise the Commission’s helpline number. “I will directly review the working of Jagratha Samithis. Samithis would be strengthened with the support of local bodies,” she said.
