THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Four persons were arrested by the  Cantonment Police for attacking a police team led by Sub-Inspector B S Sajikumar, late on Saturday night.

The Cantonment Sub-Inspector, civil police officer Jayalal and home guard Prabhakaran were attacked by a drunken group of four persons when the police tried to book them.   The arrested were identified as Shanavaz, 30, of Veli, Reji, 34, of Parassala, Vipin Kumar, 24, of Maruthankuzhi, and Sivakumar, 38, of Chennilode.

According to  police, the city police control room had received a message during the late hours on Saturday that some persons were involved in a drunken brawl near the Trivandrum Hotel close to the Secretariat.

A police team led by Cantonment SI and two constables reached the spot to bring the situation under control. When the SI asked the group which was apparently in an inebriated state to enter the jeep, they refused to obey the order and began  to attack the police team. While the SI suffered injuries on his head, the civil police officer and the Home Guard suffered injuries on the hands and face respectively.

Police from the station who arrived at the scene managed to nab the culprits.  The four were produced before a local court and remanded to judicial custody. They were charged under various sections of IPC for drunken brawl in public place and obstructing police personnel from discharging their duties.
