THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Horticulture Mission has made special  arrangements to support winter vegetable farming in Vattavada and Kanthalloor. Agriculture Minister K P Mohanan has given special instruction to the Director of State Horticulture Mission and Idukki district agriculture officer to take steps for proper cultivation and marketing of products from Vattavada and Kanthalloor.

A group of agriculture officials had visited the area on April 9 and 10 and interacted with the farmers there. The officers ensured the availability of seeds and fertilisers. Based on the Minister’s instruction, the officials took steps to procure winter farm products through the Vegetable and Fruit Promotion Council and the State Horticulture Mission.

This is to check the intervention of traders from Tamil Nadu and to ensure profit for the farmers. Steps were taken for the auction of the products in Munnar.

Under the guidance of VFPC and Horticulture Mission, comprehensive winter farming would begin in Vattavada and Kanthalloor areas. This would ensure fair price for the products, informed Horticulture Mission director K Prathapan in a press release.
