THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said that the State Government would consider the recommendation of the Jail ADGP to release prisoners who are above 75 years of age. He was inaugurating the solar energy power system installed at the Poojappura Central Prison here on Wednesday.  “The government would take a compassionate stand on the release of old inmates as it was pointed out in the ADGP’s report that they would not do any harm to the society,” the Chief Minister said. He also said that Prison Advisory Committees would be revamped. Solar power systems would be installed in all government institutions, the Chief Minister said.

Electricity Minister Aryadan Mohammed, who was the chief guest, said that 300 megawatt solar energy would be created in the state in a year’s time and steps had been taken in this direction. Shashi Tharoor MP, V Sivankutty MLA, ADGP Prisons Alexander Jacob and DIG Prisons H Gopakumar took part in the function.
