THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The ‘’unfortunate discussions’’ in the party which preceded the selection of the new state secretary had created a misunderstanding outside, said CPI new state secretary Pannian Raveendran.

Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, he said such a situation, however, will not be repeated in future.

‘’There is no factionalism or personal interest at play in the party.

All those names proposed for the secretaryship are eminent personalities and all of them will come together for the better functioning of the party,’’ he said.  Pannian expressed confidence that he would be able to lead the party  smoothly along the path paved by the luminaries.

He criticised the UDF for degrading into a forum for settling internal  disputes and termed the performance of the ministry as a one-man show by the Chief Minister.

The CPI leader was optimistic about the ‘’reply’’ which R Selvaraj is going to get in Neyyattinkara, as the latter’s act was ‘’undemocratic.’’

‘’We don’t have any plans to give reply to the UDF in the same coin. It is immoral to engage in horse-trading and sabotage the decisions taken in a democratic way,’’ he said.

Regarding the recent differences of opinion with the CPM over the remarks made by his predecessor C K Chandrappan, Pannian said: ‘’It is an old story.’’
