THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The quality of drinking water must be ensured and there should be a concerted effort to dispose garbage as part of the pre-monsoon cleaning drive, CM Oommen Chandy  said.

 He was chairing the meeting to discuss pre-monsoon cleaning drive in the state at the Thycaud guest house here on Friday. He said that the local governments must take up the onus of monitoring water quality.  It was decided to form a committee to coordinate the drive and a meeting of the committee would be held on May 2. Chief Secretary, secretaries and department heads concerned will participate. The district-level meetings would be held on May 5, 6 and 8. On May 7, the meeting will be held in Ernakulam. The Ministers for Water Resources, Health and Urban Affairs would attend.

Friday’s meeting was attended by Minister for Panchayats M K Muneer, Health Minister V S Sivakumar, Urban Affairs Minister Manjalamkuzhy Ali, local government heads and department officials.
