THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Service delivery in the quickest mode promising a hassle-free public service - in a nutshell the e-governance project of the City Corporation is just that. By re-engineering the back-up data base and offering more services to the staff, the project to be undertaken by Wipro would give a much-needed boost to the computerisation project in the Corporation.
However, the Information Kerala Mission (IKM) which is up in arms against the move to privatise computerisation warns that lack of knowledge about the functioning of a local government on the part of the private firm could be a major drawback in future. Unless the private player is well versed in the modalities of plan spending, utilisation, revenue collection, accounts keeping and the technicalities of its various services including submission of building plans and tax payment there could be casualties.
