Army mela from December 8

Defence Minister A K Antony will inaugurate the ‘Know Your Army’ mela at the Colachel Stadium, Pangode, on December 8. The two-day Mela is being conducted by the Army after a gap of four years and will have an exhibition of military hardware, information stalls for recruitment into the Indian Army and welfare of ex-Army personnel and widows, the Army said.

 Other attractions at the mela are a motorcycle display by Army Dare Devils, special forces operational demos, sky diving, paramotors demonstration, Kalaripayattu, band concert and light & sound show. It will also feature a horse and dog show.

 The Army conducts the Know Your Melas to popularise the Army among the people and encourage youth to join the Armed Forces. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Minister of State for HRD Shashi Tharoor and Lieutenant General A K Singh, General Officer Commanding in Chief, Southern Command, and senior Army officers will attend the inauguration.

 Entry is free and on both days and the mela will be open up to 5.30 pm.
