The last date for registration for the South Indian Bank Grand Kerala Shopping Festival (GKSF) has been extended to December 10.

Retail outlets and business establishments have more time to join for the sixth season of GKSF which will open with an inaugural ceremony on December 15. The 48-day shopping fiesta runs till January 31, 2013.

A nationwide road show, currently underway to promote GKSF across the country, promises to rope in more shoppers from outside the state.

Efforts are on by the Tourism Department, which organises the GKSF in partnership with the trade and commerce sectors, to pitch the event strongly to overseas visitors.

The introduction of handicraft, handloom and ethnic Kerala products in the festival prize draws, a targeted campaign for pilgrims to the Sabarimala shrine and high-visibility promotional drive in major tourist centres, airports and railway stations, are among the steps taken to attract visitors and encourage more tourist spending.

Hotels, homestays, tour and travel operators, houseboats, spas and beauty parlours have the opportunity to attract more customers through the GKSF branding and promotional exercise. Registration has been made simpler with the introduction of online facilities.
