Waste management: City Corporation sets deadline

The City Corporation has asked all wards to find space for source-level waste management by mid-December.  Discussions resumed in the circle (comprising four wards) levels in the Corporation on Monday in this regard.

 On Monday, discussions were held in the presence of health officials and councillors at Palayam and Jagathy circles. “More than half of the wards are yet to provide space for establishing a system to manage waste at source level,” said health standing committee chairperson S Pushpalatha. Now, the Corporation is providing a 75-per cent subsidy for homes to establish biogas plants. 

Welcome for Cardinal

The Corporation is arranging a welcome for Cardinal Baselios Mar Cleemis on December 10. The reception will start from in front of University College and reach Kerala University Senate Hall. The programme will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy at 5.30 pm at Senate Hall and CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan will preside over.

 Speaker G Karthikeyan, Health Minister V S Sivakumar, Minister of State for HRD Shashi Tharoor, Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan, V Sivankutty MLA,  Palode Ravi MLA, O N V Kurup, O Rajagopal and Panniyan Raveendran will be present on the occasion. Mayor K Chandrika will welcome the gathering and Deputy Mayor G Happykumar will propose the vote of thanks.
