E-mail Snooping: Case Against Suspended SI

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A case of forgery and hobnobbing with fundamentalist elements was slapped against S Biju, Sub-Inspector, attached to the State Hi-Tech Cell,  by the Museum Police here on Thursday, in the controversial e-mail snooping. He was under suspension.

It is learnt that the report filed by Kori Sanjay Garudin, Additional IG, clearly points to the bonhomie of the SI with the office-bearers and members of organisations with fundamentalist character, including a lawyer.  The main charge in the non-bailable case against Biju is forgery.  It is alleged that the controversial letter by SP K K Jayamohan published in a section of the media was fabricated and signed by Biju. He is also charged under the Police Force (Restriction of Rights) Act.   The probe team will investigate the activities of Biju in the Hi-Tech Cell during the past three months.  As he was serving at the Immigration Section of T’Puram Airport earlier, that tenure also will be put under scanner. The call list from three mobile numbers used by Biju will be examined in detail.  The e-mail snooping became a controversy after a vernacular weekly reported that the State Govt had issued an order to snoop into  e-mail details of 258 individuals, all belonging to a particular community.
