THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: ‘Kannakeeyam,’ a devotional poem dedicated to Attukal Devi, written by Kaithackal Somakurup, was released here on Thursday.

The slim volume blends the important events in ‘Devi Bhagavatham’, ‘Chilappathikaram’ and the legends connected to the Attukal Temple, Somakurup, a staffer with the Press Trust of India (PTI) in Thiruvananthapuram, said.

‘Kannakeeyam’, published by Chandra Press and Book Depot (Rs 20), consists of 108 ‘slokas’ with interpretations divided into eight chapters.

Devaswom Minister V S Sivakumar released the poem by handing over the first copy to Attukal Bhagavathy Temple Trust chairman K P Ramachandran Nair at a function held at the temple.

Temple Trust president M Radhakrishnan Nair, secretary M S Jyothish Kumar and executive officer S Sreekantan Nair were among those present.

Somakurup hails from Kaithakkal in Adoor Taluk. He has written five novels and a number of devotional poems. He was a recipient of the Gargacharya Award in 2007.
