Addressing mediapersons here on Saturday, Association office-bearers said that the arrested were Anzar, 26, and Nizamuddeen, 24, the driver and cleaner of a contract carrier which transported Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) workers who took out a protest march in front of the Secretariat the other day. The march had resulted in a violent clash between the workers and the police. 27 persons were arrested in connection with the case.

The Association office-bearers said that the bus workers who were booked as 26th and 27th accused were resting in the vehicle parked at Vazhuthacaud when the clash occurred.

“The police contacted the drivers over mobile phone and asked them to report to the station. When they arrived their names were asked and upon knowing that they belonged to a particular community, they were booked as accused,” Faizal alleged.

Cantonment CI MS Santhosh said that the bus workers were booked as they had helped those who attacked the police.  The bus workers, along with the party workers, were remanded to judicial custody. The 49-seater tourist bus is now in police custody.
