KOCHI: The High Court on Tuesday issued notices to the state government and the Vilappil panchayat on a contempt petition filed by the T’Puram Corporation related to the dumping of garbage at the solid waste treatment plant at Vilappilsala.
A Division Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice P R Ramachandra Menon issued the directive.
The court had earlier directed to provide police protection for running the Vilappilsala treatment plant without any obstruction and had asked to open the locks of the gates of the plant to enable garbage vehicles to enter the plant.
However, panchayat president Shobhana Kumari, along with the agitators, organised protests and blocked the movement of garbage trucks, the petitioner submitted. “Janakeeya Samiti president Burhanudeen and secretary Beneckson committed civil contempt under Section 2(b) of the Contempt of Courts Act and should be punished,” the petitioner said.
