Adventure Camp Begins Today

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The ten-day State-level adventure camp organised by Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan and Academy For Mountaineering & Adventure Sports, Neyyattinkara, will start on Friday. The programme will be officially inaugurated by District Panchayat president Ramani P Nair  at Veli Youth Hostel.

 The event is being organised to create adventure spirit and nationalism among  youngsters of the State. Various adventure programmes will be organised on land, air and water.

 The adventures will kick-start from Saturday onwards, when the parasailing programme will be held at Adimalathura beach. It will be inaugurated by Jameela Prakasam MLA. In the afternoon, beach trekking will be conducted from Adimalathura-Azhimala. The first day’s programme will conclude with water surfing at Kovalam beach.

 On the third day of the camp, first aid and rescue session will be held. Beach trekking and night hike will be organised from Veli-Vettucaud- Shangumugham.

 Various water sports events will be held on February 27. The events will be flagged off by Transport Minister V S Sivakumar on Veli beach. Banana boat, water zorbing, water ball, basic surfing, board ski, water ski, kanoeing, kayaking etc will be organised.

 From February 28 onwards, the activities of the camp will be shifted to the dam sites in Peppara and Neyyar. Rock climbing, rappelling and chimney climbing will be organised at Neyyar Dam. The adventure trekking programme will be organised on February 29 at Peppara Dam.

 Trekking and other adventure activities including river crossing, swinging valley crossing, monkey bridge, commando net, night games etc will be organised at Kallar eco-tourism centre on March 1. Wild expedition will be held on March 2. The trekkers will cover the wild from Ponmudi hills to Pandipath. Training in archery and rifle shooting will be imparted to trekkers on March 3.

 The programme will conclude on March 4. Specially selected youths from all the 14 districts and Mahe will take part in the event.
