THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The success of the online transformation of birth certificate registration and distribution has prompted the LSG Department to extent its online web services. This time, the Department has good news for people entering wedlock.

It is all set to launch e-filing of the application for common marriage registration which would bring down the delay in issuing marriage certificates.

The couple can fill and submit the form downloaded from the website, which would leave them with a register number. On payment of the cash and citing the register number at the respective local bodies, the applicants can complete the registration formalities in just five minutes instead of waiting for long hours on end.

Besides, the marriage certificates which usually takes two to three months to reach home would be ready in three days. The e-filing would come to the aid of  local bodies such as Thiruvananthapuram Corporation and Guruvayoor municipality, where large number of marriage registrations take place. If it is a local body where there is no heavy rush for registrations then the couple might even get the certificates in hand in 15 minutes. The time taken for data entry in the local bodies is saved and the absence of required data entry officials would not affect the issuing of marriage certificates. The officials can verify the documents with the online form and the registrar can sign the (form 4) of the application and issue the certificates in two days.

“The e-filed form could be filled and edited by the couple even before the wedding. It is only when the couple appear in person and sign before the registrar that the formality is complete. Since the filing part is already done, the couple can complete the formalities in the local body in a few minutes,” said Dr M Shamsudin, Information Kerala Mission Director (IKM).

It is the IKM which has done the software for making marriage registration online.  The Sevana software has been integrated with Sankhya software for the purpose, IKM officials said.

The e-filing can be done through Akshaya centres or with the help of Kudumbashree members.
