THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: For a city racking its collective brains for a solution to waste disposal, Kabeersha of Malappuram says he has a suggestion - ‘Knowaste: The no fuel incinerator.’

Kabeersha, who hails from Pulikkal in Malappuram, says his design is cheap, eco-friendly, easy to install and takes up little space, making it ideal for flats and urban areas. Kabeersha told a press conference here the other day that he has patented the design and has supplied the incinerator in many parts of Malappuram district.

‘’The maximum space you would need to set it up is 100 sq ft. Incinerators in big hospitals and factories where tonnes of waste materials are burned to ash within a short time use fuel. Such facilities require big investment. Medium-sized establishments cannot afford such incinerators. They need an incinerator which can be set up with minimum investment with no running cost,’’ he says.

His design works on what he calls ‘Controlled oxygen rotating system (CORT), which produces very high temperature within the chamber and combustion is complete. There is no smoke, no irritating fumes or foul smell. ‘’All you have to do is deposit the waste inside the chamber, throw in an ignited piece of paper and shut the window,’’ he says.  A large quantity of waste material, both dry and wet, can be burnt within a few minutes. ‘Knowaste’ has an outer shell of aluminium, and on the inside, a thick glass wool insulation and a fire brick chamber.

The manufacturing cost of ‘Knowaste’ is Rs 1.65 lakh, according to him. He developed ‘Knowaste’ four years ago, and currently runs a firm, ‘Steeltech’ in Malappuram. Kabeersha’s phone number: 9946447372.
