THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: ‘Disaster Mitigation and Planning: For a Safe State,’ a week-long international workshop and exhibition will be held at the Kanakakunnu Palace in March. The exhibition will be held from March 4 to 10 and the workshop, on March 9 and 10, Revenue Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan said here on Wednesday.

  The organisers are the Revenue Department, the Disaster Management Authority, Institute of Land and Disaster Management and the Centre for Earth Science Studies. National and international agencies, NGOs, armed forces and the para-military, police, fire force, industries and research institutions will participate, he said.

  The exhibition will feature exhibits on natural and man-made disasters. Experts from the United Nations, US, UK, Japan, Cuba, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, OXFAM and World Bank and various national agencies will present papers, the Minister said.

  The focal areas would include policy formation on disaster mitigation, early warning systems, forecasts, rapid action mechanisms and participatory mitigation mechanisms.
