THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Clad in a white gown, she resembled an angel. The wish of Sebastian and Vimala to see their only child in a bridal attire had its fulfillment in a heart-breaking way on Friday. Hundreds belonging to various walks of life came to bid adieu to Sincy Sebastian, who was stabbed to death at Gurgaon in Haryana on Wednesday.

Sincy, daughter of Sebastian and Vimala of Fatima Bhavan, Gowreesapattom, was a rank holder in engineering from the Marian Engineering College, Kazhakkoottam. She had left for Gurgaon to join HIPL, an IT firm, in 2010. It was in last December that she came home to celebrate Christmas with parents and relatives and returned on January 3.

It was only after Sincy got the placement that the family started to indulge in some luxuries in life. Sebastian, a typewriter mechanic, and Vimala, a nursing staff of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College, never had enough money. Still, they provided Sincy with the best of everything, which she never misused.

“She was of a calm nature, but was very smart in studies,” said Deepa, one of her friends. A group of friends who were classmates of Sincy at Marian College was there from morning itself.

The mystery over her death deepens as days pass, as reports from Haryana say that the police there could not find out who were behind the death, though they had confirmed that it was a murder. According to details available, there were three deep injuries in Sincy’s stomach and neck.

Sinsy was staying in an apartment with one of her colleagues, who had gone to her house at Jodhpur on the day of Sincy’s death. Another resident of the apartment was an air hostess, who reportedly went missing from the day of Sincy’s death.

“Sincy was under probation and needed just a few more months to complete it,” said Sebastian, his words breaking.

Joseph, a relative of Sebastian, who had left for Haryana with Sebastian soon after the tragedy, said that the police there had questioned a lady who stayed in the same apartment of Sincy and a shop keeper nearby, but no details leading to the culprits were obtained.

"The body was kept in the mortuary when we reached there. Then, it was embalmed in the City Hospital at Gurgaon and brought to the airport. Nothing else is known,” said Joseph.

There was no proof of sexual harassment or robbery, which deepens the mystery about the motive behind the murder.

Sincy’s body, which was airlifted from Delhi to Thiruvananthapuram, was brought to the family house at Kunnukuzhy around 11 am morning and kept there till 3 pm, before being taken to her home at Gowreesapattom.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, K Muraleedharan MLA and former minister M Vijayakumar, among others, came to pay their last respects.

The funeral was held at Marthoma Church, Pattoor, around 5 pm.
