THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Pope Benedict XVI’s envoy Cardinal Leonardo Sandri will formally inaugurate the spiritual and social development projects of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church at 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Sandri is the Prefect of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches, Rome. The inaugural function is to be held at Charottukonam (Parassala-Kulathoor). Sandri will be inaugurating an action plan based on the recommendations of the Church Assembly held from September 21 to 23 last year at the Catholicate Centre and the decisions of the Church Synod.

The action plan focuses on streamlining the Church’s charitable activities and focuses on bringing in improvements at the individual, family and social levels.

Sandri will visit visit the Malankara Major Seminary on Sunday morning and will attend the Synod which will meet at the Catholicate Centre, the Church HQ, at 6 p.m. the same day.

Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church Moran Mor Baselios Cleemis will preside over the public reception given to Cardinal Sandri at Charottukonam.

Pathanamthitta Bishop Yuhannon Mar Chrysostom, Marthandam Bishop Vincent Mar Poulose, Bathery Bishop Joseph Mar Thomas and Bishop Jacob Mar Barnabas, Curia  Bishop Thomas Mar Athonios and Auxillary Bishop for Thiruvananthapuram Samuel Mar Irenios will attend.
