KOCHI: The multifaceted blog launched by the students of Mar Ivanios College here has completed a year. Incorporating movie related and socially relevant articles, the blog micboyzinc.blogspot.com is the product of a set of 33 students who are pursuing their bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication and Video Production (BVMC).
Started as a blog that posted film news and interviews of film personalities, the blog now presents before the readers a cornucopia of variety fare to pass an eye over a number of topics connected to film industry. Film reviews, photographs, write ups and polls comprise a majority of elements that appear online. Sunderlal Raja of second year BVMC, says, “we intended to contribute something to the new media by launching the blog. Though socially relevant matters were planned, later we arrived at a decision to file more film related stuff considering its acceptance among the readers.” Started by Sunderlal and Abdulla Amir Hamza, who are now in the second year BVMC, their classmates later joined to promote the blog as a team venture. From its inception, the team behind the blog has been giving publicity to the initiative via social networking sites like orkut, twitter and facebook.
The blog has covered significant happenings and trends in filmdom. Exclusive photographic collections of students too find a part in the blog. The team had given a wide coverage to the recently concluded 16th edition of International Film Festival of Kerala. The blog also devotes a corner for fashion related articles. Having completed a year, the team posts some two to three posts per week. According to the blog managers, the blog receives some 175 to 180 hits per day. “As part of extending coverage, we have plans to bring in some political and socially relevant news within three to four months”, Sunderlal said.
The first post on the site was an interview with Asif Ali published in three parts and the latest being a write up on Kerala Strikers of Celebrity Cricket League. Including their latest updates, the blog has more than 60 items at present.
