Sainik School ‘pioneers’ to be feted

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Staff and cadets who joined the Sainik School, Kazhakkoottam, in 1962 - the year the school was established - will be felicitated on Friday, on the eve of the closing ceremony of the school’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

 ‘Felicitation of the Pioneers’ will be held at 2 p.m., Sainik School officials said in a statement.

The School principal has requested all officers, teachers, administrative staff and general employees who served the school in the past, all Old Boys Association members and the ‘Pioneers’ (staff and cadets who joined the school in 1962) to attend the function.

 The Sainik School was originally started at Pangode and later shifted to Kazhakkoottam.

 The felicitation will be followed by the ‘Satish Chandran musical evening’ organised by the school’s golden jubilee media partner, ‘All India Radio.’

 Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will be the chief guest at the grand finale of the golden jubilee celebrations, which will open at 3.20 p.m. on Saturday.

Minister of State for Defence Pallam Raju and Air Marshal S P Singh, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Air Command, will also attend the function.

 ‘Singari melam’ sponsored by Thiruvananthapuram Doordarshan Kendra, para display by Indian Air Force, para motor display by the Indian Army and ‘Dare Devils’ motorcycle display by Corps of Signals are the other events planned on Saturday.
