THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Olympic Association Office at Vanross Junction will soon be converted into an Olympic Tower, to accommodate more government and other offices in it.

The Department of Sports and Youth Affairs possess 29 cents of land which currently house the Kerala Olympic Association Office. Infrastructure Kerala Limited (Inkel) proposes to promote the project in association with Department of Sports and Youth Affairs.

Though the physical area available now is 29 cents, the area available after proposed road widening would be 22 cents. The site is 500 m north of the Central Stadium and the Secretariat and 200 m west of the Bakery Junction.

Inkel managing director T Balakrishnan said that the present plan proposes construction of premium office space having a total built up area of 38,000 sq ft. Department of Sports and Youth Affairs will be offered office space in the lower floors.

Remaining space will be leased out to Government departments, public sector companies owned by the Government (both central and state), other institutions set up or established by these Governments and PSU Banks.

In addition, the facility will also have sufficient parking facility, basic support and utility infrastructure like water, power, generator, fire fighting facility and security. The project to be jointly implemented by Inkel and Department of Sports and Youth Affairs is expected to be completed in one year after getting the approvals.

Kerala Government has accorded in-principle approval for the proposal. A detailed scheme is worked out by a reputed architect and based on this, a detailed feasibility report has been prepared and submitted to director of sports and youth affairs.
