THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan has demanded a moratorium on farm loans taken from scheduled banks, which he said constituted 65 percent of loans availed of by farmers in Wayanad district.

He said in a statement that 12 out of 28 farmers who committed suicide in the past three months belonged to Wayanad.

Despite the State Government’s assurance that attachment measures have been stopped and moratorium declared on debts recovery, tahsildars were still issuing recovery notices to farmers, Achuthanandan said.
