ATTINGAL: A youth was arrested for attacking a housewife and her brother and  locking them up in room while committing a robbery, at Vellorkkonam near here. Siby, 29, of Thekkevila, Valiyakunnu, Attingal, was the person arrested. Police said that Siby reached the house of  Devarajan on Wednesday night and demanded Rs 5000 from his wife. When this was happening, Suni, Devarajan’s brother-in-law and friends reached home after performing ‘chendamelam’ in a nearby temple. When they questioned Siby, he attacked them with a weapon and then locked them up in a room. He also robbed the ornaments of Devarajan’s wife.

Devarajan, who was not in the house, came to know of the incident when he returned and informed the police. It was only after  police team led by Kadakkavur CI Muhammed Rias reached the house that those locked up in the room were freed.

Siby who had escaped by then was arrested on Thursday afternoon. Police said that Siby was a history-sheeter who had been held three times under Goonda Act.

It was only a few days back that he was released from prison after undergoing imprisonment for a recent crime. He will be presented in court on Friday.
