THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In order to find a permanent solution to the garbage treatment faced by the capital and other parts of the state including Kochi, Kannur and Kozhikode, the State Government would chalk out a comprehensive project encompassing the latest technologies for solid waste management seeking assistance from the Central Government.

Industries and Urban Affairs Minister P K Kunhalikutty told Express that a permanent solution for solid waste disposal was the need of the hour and a high-level state delegation would visit New Delhi with a comprehensive  project for waste management in the state.

“The need for bringing in latest world class technologies for solid waste management was discussed with Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission.

He was very positive and understood the concerns of the state. “He has assured all the assistance needed from the part of the Planning Commission for the project,” he said.

Kunhalikutty said that an expert panel would work out a report on solid waste management project most suited for Kerala. The State Government step comes against the backdrop of high resistance coming up from the local people in Vilappilsala.
