THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Notorious gangster Ajith Kumar alias Ammakoru Makan Soju was arrested under Goonda Act by the city police late on Tuesday  night.

The 34-year-old gangster hailing from Bund road near Karamana was released 6 months ago from jail after he was held under the same Act.

The arrest on Tuesday came after the District Collector accepted the request of the police officirs to include Ajith Kumar in the goonda list.

The police said that Ajith Kumar was pursuing his criminal activities even after being released from prison.

A strong police force led by Fort AC Radha Krishnan Nair M, Fort CI Suresh V, Thampanoor CI Sheen Tharayil, Nenon SI Ashok Kumar V A and Fort SI Sheri AK cornered Ajith who was staying near Karamana Bund area and arrested him.

According to police, Ajith Kumar came to the limelight after the murder of Jet Santhosh.

The murder was the brainchild of Ajith Kumar. Knowing that direct physical confrontation with friend-turned-foe Santhosh, a karate expert, was undesirable, he tricked Santhosh by offering him a lift and then brutally murdered him. This murder was done under the instructions of Motta Ani, his brother-in-law.

Motta Ani was later hacked to death by an armed gang near Karamana a couple of years ago.

The act was carried out by a group of  youths at the behest of Chuzhattukotta Ambili.

The team of Ani then started withering away. It was at the juncture that Ajith took the helm of the group.

He is also accused of masterminding the killing of Parassala Binu ,who played a pivotal role in Ani’s murder.

Besides, he is an accused in almost two dozen criminal cases including extortion and attempt to murder registered in various police stations in the district.
