THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Government has insufficient mechanisms to ensure the safety of fishermen venturing into the sea, Latin Archbishop of Thiruvananthapuram M Soosa Pakiam said on Monday.
He was speaking after inaugurating a sit-in near the Assembly organised by the Kerala Lateen Catholika Aikya Vedi protesting the Enrica Lexie incident and the second mishap caused by a ship ramming into a fishing vessel.
Soosa Pakiam said that while the state government boasted of having necessary infrastructure to tackle such contingencies, they were of little use when disaster actually struck.
