THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Opposition in the City Corporation Council has come out strongly  against the budget which, it termed, was ‘’full of repetitions from the previous budget.’’

‘’Of the 60 major announcements, a lion’s share was announced in the previous budget also. No constructive development project has been announced in the present budget,’’ said Opposition leader and UDF member Johnson Joseph.

Addressing mediapersons here on Monday, he said that the ruling front had sabotaged the Vilappilsala garbage treatment plan. He also said that there were some curious omissions in the present budget. ‘’The projects announced for Akkulam, Veli and Shangumugham in the previous budget were not implemented. So was the proposed bus stand at Attakulangara. These projects have not found a place in the current budget,’’ he said.

The UDF member also alleged that several projects implemented by the Corporation last year were those funded by the State and Central Governments. ‘’The ruling front members’ criticism of the State Government is  a shameless political gimmick,’’ he added.

‘Inspect Corp Accounts’

The BJP members in the Corporation Council alleged that the ruling front was cheating the public by not taking up the welfare projects announced in the budget. ‘’No action was taken on the applications received for the ‘Vayomithram’ project announced in the last budget. The fate of the current announcements will also be no different,’’ said BJP leader P Ashok Kumar.

The BJP members also told reporters that there were massive irregularities in the Corporation accounts. They called for an inquiry by the intelligence wing of the Revenue Department into the activities of the accounts and revenue sections of the Corporation.
