THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A youth was stabbed to death and his brother was seriously injured in an attack  allegedly carried out by a relative on Thursday night at Maranallur on the outskirts of the city.

The victim, who died at the Medical College Hospital here at around 7 am on Friday, was identified as Aneesh 23, son of Lawrence alias Gopi of Roadarikathuveetil, Aryasalakkonam, Maranallur.  His brother Ajeesh, 21, was admitted to the Medical College Hospital with serious injuries. Lawrence, who also got injured, was admitted to the hospital.  Binu, 33, of Valappil Veetil, Arayasalakkonam, the suspect of the crime, who is a  distant relative and neighbour of Aneesh, was taken into police custody. Police said that Lawrence and his family were staying at his sister Sulochana’s house as their house was being  renovated. Aneesh, who is a sexton of Aryasalakkonam St. Mary’s Church, bought ice cream for Sulochana’s grandchildren, which the latter did not like. It created an altercation in the house and Binu, who had rivalry with the family of Lawrence, came to the house with a knife and stabbed Lawrence, Aneesh and Ajeesh.  Police said that Binu, who was a drunkard, used to quarrel with Lawrence’ family frequently. Aneesh’s body was cremated in the evening.
