THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The maximum limit of financial assistance under the Swanthanam project for  economically weaker NRIs and their families for funeral, treatment or marriage has been raised from Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000 in the budget. A sum of Rs 1.5 crore has been earmarked for this.

 A sum of Rs 50 lakh has been allotted to  Pravasi Bharatheeya Divas, the international meet of NRIs, to be held on January 7, 8 and 9, 2013, which will be organised by the Department of Non-Resident Indians and hosted by Kerala for the first time. A sum of Rs 50 lakh has been allotted to ‘Swapnasaphalyam’ project, which is aimed at securing the release through legal means of Keralites in Gulf jails with the assistance of the Malayalee industrialists.   A sum of Rs 50 lakh has been allotted to the business centre for guiding entrepreneurship of NRIs.
