THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A fishing net manufacturing factory will be opened in the coastal region of the district, Transport Minister V S Sivakumar, the local MLA, has said.

 The factory will be established under the Integrated Fisheries Sector Development Project. An amount of ` 2 crore has been earmarked for the project in the 2012-13 State Budget, Sivakumar said in a statement here.

 Funds for setting up the factory will be sourced from financial agencies in the fisheries sector. The Minister said that steps will be taken to start construction this year itself. The factory will also provide jobs to members of the fishing community, he said.
