THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Finance Minister K M Mani said that all the public sector enterprises in the state should be reconstituted professionally.

  Mani, who distributed the performance excellence awards for PSUs in the state under the Industries Department here, said that new technologies should be used in PSUs to ensure maximum output. He said that the profit of the PSUs in the state for the year 2010-11, which comes to around Rs 25 crore, would be given to the Industries Department for infrastructure development.

  Industries Minister P K Kunhalikutty, who presided over the function, said that the Rs 25 crore would be used for the modernisation of industries. He also said that the state would take steps for transparency and more efficiency in the functioning of PSUs.

There are 39 PSUs functioning under the Industries Department and 29 of them are making profit, the Minister said.

  The best enterprise award was handed over to the Kerala Minerals and Metals Ltd, Chavara, Kollam, S Venkadeeswaran, managing director Transformers and Electricals Kerala Ltd, Angamaly South, for corporate leadership, Steel and Industrial Forgings Ltd, Athani and Kerala Clays and Ceramic Products Ltd, Pappiniserry, for notable enterprise performance, Saji Basheer, managing director, Kerala Small Industries Development Corporation Ltd (SIDCO), for notable corporate leadership and Thanesh Thampi, staff reporter, Managalam Daily, Thiruvananthapuram, for outstanding achievement in industry reporting - print media.

   Industries secretary Alkesh Kumar Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary V Somasundaram and finance secretary V P Joy participated.
