Government, Corporation file lists of experts

The Kerala High Court on Monday adjourned hearing on the lists of experts in the field of environment and pollution control to look into the practical aspects of the solid waste treatment plant in Vilappilsala.

 Following the Court direction, the state government and Thiruvananthapuram Corporation filed panel lists before the Court on Monday.

 The Corporation suggested the names of R Ajayakumar Varma, Scientist- G at Centre for Earth Science Studies; Prof C T Aravinda Kumar of School of Environmental Sciences, MG University; K Jayachandran, Associate Professor, School of Biosciences; and Prof A Praveen of Department of Civil Engineering, Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology.

While the state submitted  the names of K Sajeevan, chairman, Pollution Control Board; P S Harikumar, Head, Water Quality Division Centre for Water Resource Development and Management; E V Ramasamy, Reader & Director School of Environmental Sciences, Mahatma Gandhi University and V B Manilal, Principal Scientist & Safety Officer, National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology.

After considering the lists, the Court will constitute an expert committee to look into the proposal of installing a leachate treatment plant at the Vilappilsala plant of the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation and to find ways and means for finding a solution to the plant issue.
