Engineering student killed in bike-tipper smash

An engineering student was killed on Friday when the bike he was riding on was hit by a tipper lorry at Chanthavila, near Pothencode, around 8 am. The mishap occurred a day after three engineering students were killed in another accident near Attingal.

Asif, 21, a student of Mohandas Engineering College, Nedumangad, was the deceased. Ansy, sister of Asif who was riding pillion, has been admitted to a private hospital with injuries. Asif died on the spot.

He was the son of Ashraf and Sabeena of Kuzhivila Vettil, Chanthavila. The body was handed over to relatives after post-mortem.

Theft at former DGP’s house

Three digital cameras, a silver lamp and Rs 2,000 in cash were stolen from the house of former DGP P Ramesh Chandra Bhanu at Thampuranmukku early on Friday.

 Police said that the robbers broke into the house after breaking the window panes and cutting the iron grills. The theft is presumed to have happened after Thursday midnight. “The family members did not hear any sound as there was heavy rain. We have collected the fingerprints of the thieves,” said Circle Inspector, Pettah, Prakash M.
