Thiruvananthapuram International Airport poised for massive development

The International Airport here is all set to get a facelift with a slew of facilities being planned to improve passenger amenities.

The Union Civil Aviation Ministry has cleared works totalling to Rs 106.24 crore to create various facilities, said Minister of State for Civil Aviation K C Venugopal here the other day.

A parallel taxiway at a cost of Rs 69 crore, an airside corridor and an aerobridge, costing Rs 16.90 crore, and a ‘turning pad’ at a cost of Rs 10.37 crore, apart from Rs 10 crore earmarked for upgrading the security system in the domestic terminal on the Sanghumugham side, have been proposed as part of the development drive.

Tenders for the new aerobridge has already been floated.

The State Government is expected to provide land for further development of the airport.

20 acres are urgently needed here.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had on record stated that the government was according top priority for the development of  various airports in the state.

Talks are on to reach a consensus to avail of sufficient land here and in Karippur.
