Small industries see good growth in district

The District Industries Centre has informed that the micro and small-scale industries have shown an impressive growth in the last financial year.

 In the last financial year, 1,483 micro and small industries were started in the district. The investment is Rs 188 crore and the employment generated is 9,372.

 The Industries Centre disbursed Rs 1.13 crore as subsidy for 60 entrepreneurs. A state-level industrial equipment exhibition was conducted and a buyer-seller meet was organised, apart from the training programmes.

 Loans were given to 103 entrepreneurs and margin money grant of Rs 101.51 lakh allotted to 90 persons under PMEGP. In the handloom sector, apart from the existing projects, self-employment motivation project was also implemented.

 A single window clearance board was formed to help the investors to get all the clearance without any hindrance and guidance cell was established to give clear instructions.

A multi-storeyed industrial estate will be established at Kochuveli Industrial Development area at a cost of Rs 10 crore. Mini engineering clusters will be developed as part of the Small Industrial Cluster Development Project.

 It is also proposed to establish a labour bank after providing skill development training to youngsters. This will be done with the cooperation of Kerala Small Scale Industries Association.

 Training programmes will also be held in solar energy industry, considering the scope of solar energy projects which come up in the state.
