Unfazed by the continuing battering of the LDF in the solar scam issue and the threat to boycott public functions attended by him, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said that he would attend all public functions including the Mass Contact programme.

At the same time, the Chief Minister’s office has informed that the Mass Contact programme announced  for the northern districts of Wayand, Kannur and Kasaragod, in the latter part of the month, has been postponed. Fresh dates, to conduct the programme, have not been announced.

Replying to queries of media persons in a post-Cabinet briefing here on Friday, Chandy observed that let the people take a decision on the CPM stand that he would be obstructed from attending any public function and waving of black flags. “In a democracy, it is the opinion of the people which matters,” Chandy pointed out.

When attention was sought on CPM leader M V Govindan’s reported statement that Home Minister Tiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan had promised Pinarayi Vijayan over phone that the Chief Minister’s Office would also be included in the judicial probe after discussions, Chandy said that the CPM leaders  themselves had denied any such undertaking.

“I have nothing more to add,”  Chandy said. “Neither Tiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan nor P K Kunhalikutty or  M K Yusafali had mediated to settle the LDF Secretariat siege,” the Chief Minister clarified.

Chandy said that when allegations cropped up in connection with the sale of wooden logs in Kakki in 1982, while holding the charge of the Forest Minister, he had urged then Chief Minister K Karunakaran to order a judicial inquiry by a sitting judge.

“It was the last occasion when the services of a sitting judge was sanctioned by the High Court on the request of the government. But none deposed against me. My statement was not taken either. The LDF had taken a stand that a crucial file had gone missing,” he said.

“When the E K Nayanar Government came to power, I had urged him in writing to trace the file, if any, and dig out the truth. But nothing happened,” he said.
