Ezhumattoor Parama Bhattara Ashram Trust president Prajnanananda Theerthapada Swamikal has called for setting up chairs on social reformer and sage Vidyadhiraja Chattambi Swamikal in all universities in Kerala.

He made this demand here the other day while addressing a news conference. He said the Trust’s demand has been placed before political leaders of the state during the centenary celebration of the Trust this year as the 20th century sage’s contributions to the socio-spiritual realms were immense.

Chattambi Swami was a pioneer in creating the platform for the social struggle against ‘chathurvarnam’ (caste system). The thoughts and works of Swamikal influenced the formation and functioning of many social, religious, literary and even political organisations in Kerala, he added.

‘Pracheena Malayalam’, a famous historical treatise by Swami, discusses the social development and transformations of the state based on historical documents. He fought against casteism and other evil customs and practices in society. Swami stayed and dined with the untouchables. His trained disciples were sent to teach the essence of Sanathana Dharma.
