The charred body of a 22-year-old woman was found in her residence at Pappanamcode here on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Aswathi, of Putheveedu, Mekkevila. Nemom police said that the incident happened on Saturday early morning. The woman’s husband and two children were home at the time. Her husband Ratheesh told the police that he was asleep at the time of the incident and was alerted by the neighbours. However, the police are learnt to have kept him under surveillance. “The couple belonged to different castes and married following a love affair. They used to have quarrels quite often,” Circle Inspector K R Biju said. Ratheesh is a pick-up autorickshaw driver and the couple has a two-and-a-halfyear- old boy and a threemonth- old infant. The RDO conducted an inquest before the post-mortem examination.

Held for Stealing Mobile Phone

A man hailing from Gujarat accused of stealing a mobile phone from a shop at Nedumangad, landed in police custody on Saturday. The arrested has been identified as Sanjay, 28, from Jodhpur Sala, Rajkot. He allegedly stole a phone worth Rs 23,000 on Tuesday. Sanjay, who came to the shop pretending to be a buyer, stole the phone and managed to escape. The visuals retrieved from the surveillance camera in the shop helped to identify the accused, the police said. Sanjay was living in a rented house at Cherumanchal. He was produced in court and remanded.
