State 2nd in Energy Conservation

The award, instituted by the Union Power Ministry, is being given for the energy conservation activities undertaken by the EMC, which is the state-designated agency for the same. This is the fourth time the EMC is winning the award, EMC director K M Dhareshan Unnithan said.

Established in 1996, the EMC has formulated energy conservation programmes suitable for various sectors.

These include installation of 100 LED street lamps each in municipalities and conducting investment grade energy audits.

As much as eight lakh units have been saved annually through EMC’s conservation campaign at the Kerala High Court, the Secretariat and the civil stations in Kozhikode and Thrissur.

Unnithan will receive the award from President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday.
