Cops Who Piloted Sand Lorry Suspended

Three police officials who went pilot in an official jeep for a lorry carrying illegally mined earth were placed under suspension the other day.

Rural SP A J Thomaskutty suspended grade sub-inspector Salim, grade ASI Devapalan and civil police officer Sudheer, all of Narumoodu Police Station, on Friday.

There were widespread complaints on illegal earth and granite mining at Naruvamoodu for quite sometime. The policemen were caught red-handed by Neyyatinkara Circle-Inspector M Anil Kumar on December 18 night.

On Friday night, Anil Kumar received a tip-off that some officials of Naruvamoodu police station were giving ‘on-the-spot’ support to illegal earth mining. The circle inspector who rushed to Naruvamoodu Junction saw the police jeep passing through the junction, followed by a lorry a few minutes later.

The circle inspector waylaid the lorry and took the driver into custody. He also nabbed an agent from the site. “When the agent was nabbed a call was received on his mobile phone which I attended. On the other end was one of the cops who cautioned him of my probable inspection,” Anil Kumar said.

The circle inspector reported the matter to the Rural SP which led to the disciplinary action.
