'Left Intellectuals Hit by Modi Phobia'
Bharatheeya Vichara Kendram director P Parameswaran said that the Left intellectuals U R Ananthamurthy and K N Panicker who made the statement that it would be a calamity if Narendra Modi became India’s Prime Minister was borne out of ‘Modi phobia’.
He said here in a statement that Jnanapith award winner Ananthamurthy, who is currently the vice-chancellor of Central University, Gulbarga, and
Panicker, former vice-chancellor of the Sri Sankara University, Kalady, had openly come out with the public statement against Modi. “Ananthamurthy had gone to the extent of saying that if Modi becomes PM, he will leave India and go elsewhere. Panicker has stated in an interview that it will be a shame even for Hitler if Modi is elected to the prime ministerial office,” he said.
“One can understand the desperation of these misguided intellectuals. The high status and positions of authority which they occupy are due to the support of the Left parties and the Marxist ideology of which they were spokespersons ” he opined.
These academicians who swear by democracy should have at least remembered that if Modi is elected to the highest post it will be through free and fair elections based on adult franchise. Secondly, Indian democratic system is governed by our Constitution which was adopted after clause by clause debate. Thirdly, it must be remembered that Modi had not been found guilty of any offence, civil or criminal, by the judiciary. Still, if they question Modi’s elevation to the prime ministerial post through the ballot box, it only means that they have least faith either in the country’s electoral system, Constitution or judiciary, He said.
